                            "Nurses of the Korean War"

Mary Chatigny, is the granddaughter of a Navy nurse who served in the Korean War. The late Inez Lara served in San Diego during the war. Inez Lara was the daughter of a migrant farm worker in Colorado. She left home at the age of 17 to attend the Halstead School of Nursing in Kansas. According to her daughter Anita, Inez was the "first Mexican to graduate from that school."

Mary Chatigny was so inspired by her grandmother's story that she decided to produce a documentary video...Nurses of the Korean War.   This docu-video won first place in competition at Raymond Cree Middle School (California) then two more first place wins at both Palm Springs Unified School District and Riverside County competitions. And to top this off she was runner up in the State of California competition. Mary began working on her video when she was 12 years old !

Mary's parents are Logan and Anita Chatigny. Her grandfather, Joe Lara, husband of Inez Lara, served as a medic   in World War II. He was in the second wave at Normandy. Her uncle John Lara, was Inez's brother.

Congratulations Mary on a job well done !
